Following the release of the short film ‘Rhythms of the River’, by Manabu Inada, Ben Miller came to the attention of SOUTH2 WEST8, a cutting-edge clothing brand based in Sapporo, Japan. Founded in 2003, the brand is largely based on the ‘Tenkara’ fly fishing tradition, presenting pieces that are designed with technical details suitable for fishing excursions. The brand has evolved to include more urban-friendly options inspired by the outdoors. For their two collaborations (2002-2003), SOUTH2 WEST8 featured details from several Ben Miller paintings; resulting in a camouflage-style print set to a range of clothing including jackets, sweatsuits, shorts and more. Half of the proceeds went to funding local river conservation efforts.
A hoodie from this line was worn by DJ and music producer Diplo in a series of Instagram posts on his personal account. Both Ben Miller x SOUTH2 WEST8 lines sold out and designs for a third line are currently in production.
